Karyological information
Record 1
Geographical area of study Bara de Paranagua (Parana State) and Lagoa da Conceicao (Santa Catarina State), Brazil.
Source of chromosomes Short term kidney cell culture.
Number of specimens with sex 67 (23 male, 44 female)
Diploid chromosome number 48
Karyotype formula 4m+10sm+14st+20a
Fundamental arm number 76
Chromosome length -
Sex chromosome No sex related chromosome heteromorphisms detected.
Chromosome staining/banding/FISH C- bands distributed in centromeric and telomeric regions of several chromosomes with strong bands on short arms of first metacentric pair and on two acrocentric elements corresponding to 19th pair. Silver, CMA3 staining and 18S FISH signals present on short arm of 19th acrocentric pair, which frequently show size heteromorphism.

Record 2
Geographical area of study Laranjeiras Bay, State of Parana, Brazil
Source of chromosomes Anterior kidney
Number of specimens with sex 22 (13 males and 9 females)
Diploid chromosome number 48
Karyotype formula 4m+ 14sm+18st+12a
Fundamental arm number 84
Chromosome length Not reported
Sex chromosome Not reported
Chromosome staining/banding/FISH Centromeric C- bands were observed on all the chromosomes. NORs/18S rDNA probe signals were located at terminal positions of a submetacentric pair. The 5S rDNA clusters were located in terminal positions on two chromosomal pairs.
