   About Us

The ICAR-National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources (NBFGR) was established in 1983 and has emerged as a Centre of distinction in cataloguing and conserving the aquatic bio-resources of India. The aim of the Institute is to safeguard intellectual property of the nation, sustainable utilization and posterity. National Repository of Fish Cell Line (NRFC) was established at National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources, Lucknow, India in November, 2010 in a project mode sponsored by the Department of Biotechnology, Govt of India. The NRFC has state-of-art facility for development, characterization and maintenance of cell lines. The objective of NRFC is to receive cell lines developed at various research institutes of India. It also aims at authentication, cryopreservation and supply of the cell lines to the researchers and academicians for research and development work. NRFC will also provide support for training and education to stake holders while serving as a National Referral Centre of Indian and exotic fish cell lines in the country. Fish cell lines developed across the country have been deposited in NRFC and are being maintained at the cryopreservation facility. The facility is fully functional for catering the needs of researchers in the country.
