Lectotype: MNHN 0000-7157. Paralectotypes: MNHN 0000-7158 (3), 1989-1018 [ex 7157] (2), A-5727 (1, dry). Synonym: Epinephelus diacanthus (Valenciennes, 1828), Serranus diacanthus Valenciennes, 1828, Epinephelus dayi Bleeker, 1874 Order: Perciformes Family: Serranidae Distribution: Kerala & Bombay coast. Indian Ocean: continental shelf of the northern Indian Ocean from the Gulf of Aden to Sri Lanka and Madras, India. Not known from the Persian Gulf nor the Red Sea.
