Paratypes: MCZ 37301 [ex USNM 115340] (1); USNM 115335 (1), 115337-39 (1, 1, 3), 115340 (orig. 8, now 7). Order: Perciformes Family: Serranidae, Subfamily: Grammistinae. Global Distribution: Indo-West Pacific: South and East Africa, Madagascar and Comores east to Johnston Atoll, Hawaiian Islands, northern Line Islands and Marquesas Islands, north to Ryukyu Islands, south to Western Australia, Queensland (Australia), New Caledonia, and Tonga.
