The advancements in agricultural biotechnology during the past few decades have changed the existing research scenario and work pattern of scientists and researchers in retrieving and analysing the genomic data using a variety of computational tools. The growing use of information technology in molecular biology studies has opened new vistas for conducting innovative research and quality product development. The 'Centre for Agricultural Bioinformatics' aims to facilitate inter disciplinary research in cross-species genomics and building capacity for research and development in agricultural biotechnology and bioinformatics. The major objective of this program is to establish a bioinformatics grid for the NARES system by developing databases, data warehouse, software and tools, algorithms, genome browsers and high-end computational facilities through systematic and integrated approach in the field of agricultural bioinformatics. The experimentations in the different sectors of agriculture and the knowledge generated will help to evolve internationally superior competitive varieties/ breeds/ commodities in agriculture.
